We want to make sure your home is safe, comfortable, and energy-efficient. That’s why we follow the Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) – a set of rules that help us keep homes up to a high standard.
Here’s what it’s all about!
What does this mean for me?
The WHQS makes sure that:
- Your home is safe – this includes secure doors and windows, safe gas and electrical systems, and working fire alarms.
- Your home is warm and energy-efficient – heating should work well, insulation should keep heat in, and smart meters may be installed to help manage energy use.
- Your kitchen and bathroom meet modern standards – kitchens should have enough space and sockets, and bathrooms should have suitable flooring and at least a shower or bath.
- You have enough space to live comfortably. There should be room for everyday activities, good flooring, and reduced noise where possible.
- Outdoor areas are accessible and safe – if your home has a garden, it should be usable and have a safe path. Secure storage may also be available.
How do we check this?
When a home is being let, we assess whether it meets the standard. If any part of the home does not yet meet WHQS, we will:
- Explain what needs to be improved.
- We will let you know when we will carry out the work.
- Make sure your home is safe and comfortable in the meantime.
Watch how we do this:
Keeping you informed
If you’re moving into a home, we will provide a compliance statement explaining how your home meets the WHQS and any improvements planned.
If you have any questions about WHQS or would like to know more about your home’s status, please contact us. We’re here to help!
