Our dedicated Regeneration team is teaching the youngsters of Bridgend all about placemaking.
What does our Regeneration team do?
Put simply, they help build safe and happy places in our community. They do this through methods like improving the spaces around our customers’ homes, and driving forward bigger projects that boost biodiversity and the local economy.
The most recent project captures what regeneration is all about:
Learning from future placemakers
Rachel Lovell, Head of Regeneration, was invited to Oldcastle Primary School this month to support Year 6 pupils in designing a new development on the Bridgend College Town Centre campus.
Using Minecraft to bring the task to life, the children explored ideas around homes, green spaces and community hubs. The catch? Their plans had to be sustainable and support the community to thrive.
The children were passionate about the project and had lots of thoughtful discussions about what makes a place feel like home. Their focus was on regeneration that supports people and planet—a perfect match for our values.

A few words from Rachel on why this project matters:
“This project is such a clear example of our Safe and Happy Places priority in action. It reflects how we see our role, not just as housing providers, but as placemakers. It’s about empowering communities and creating environments that people are proud to be part of, now and in the future.
Supporting children to think about these things at such a young age is also an investment in the future of Bridgend. It shows how our work connects to the next generation—and why listening to local voices matters.”
Jodie James, Digital Lead and Science & Technology AoLE Lead at Oldcastle Primary added “we really appreciated the support and time. Both classes enjoyed the session!”
