We understand that losing someone close to you is a difficult and emotional experience. Managing practical matters during this time can feel overwhelming. To help make the process of ending their occupancy with us as simple as possible, here’s what we’ll need from you:
Death certificate
To formally end a contract, we’ll need a copy of their death certificate for our records.
If you’re expecting a delay in the issue of this document, the Coroner is able to issue an Interim Death Certificate to you.
We are happy to accept an emailed photograph of both sides of the certificate.
Rent charges
Rent will continue to be charged to the contract holder’s estate until the keys have been returned to us, bringing the contract to an end formally.
When you’re satisfied that the property is clear and clean, you can bring the keys to us.
The keys must be returned no later than one calendar month from the date of death, at which point, we will end rent charges and change the locks.
If an extension is needed, please speak to a housing partner as soon as you can to arrange this.
Returning the keys
You can bring the keys to our offices on Tremains Road in Bridgend, or place them in the key safe we will provide at the address. If you call us on 0300 123 2100 when you are ready to return the keys, we can give you the key safe number.
Clearance and cleaning charges
To avoid incurring clearance and cleaning charges to the contract holder’s estate, the property needs to be returned to us clear and clean.
