Over two days last week, staff, schoolchildren and Bridgend residents rolled up their sleeves to plant 1,000 trees in Heol-y-Frenhines.
Tiny Forest, mighty impact
A Tiny Forest is a small woodland, about the size of a tennis court, which is planted using the Japanese Miyawaki method.
They bring the benefits of woodland into urban areas, improving air quality, contributing to flood management and boosting mental health.
We’ve received a grant from the Welsh Government to plant two Tiny Forests in our local community – and residents were excited to get started on the first forest last week.
On 13th November, 160 pupils from Llangewydd Primary School joined us to plant trees with the help of Megan and Hannah from Earthwatch Europe.
Our CEO, Joanne Oak, also attended the first session and planted an oak tree.
The final figures
Over the two sessions, over 340 people joined us and we planted 1,200 trees! It was wonderful to see the youngest members of the crew keen to get stuck in too.
