With the weather getting colder and the cost of heating rising, we all need to be proactive in addressing damp, mould and condensation.
We’re aiming to keep our homes safe and warm by taking a new approach to damp and mould this year.
Six ways we’re supporting you this winter
- We’ve set up a dedicated Damp, Mould and Condensation team to shift our focus to the prevention of damp and mould in our homes, rather than reacting after problems arise.
- We’ve started identifying homes that are likely to have issues with dampness, mould, and condensation, including those in Caerau Estate, Darren Bungalow, Tudor Estate, and Maesteg. By analysing the data, we can target our efforts where they’re needed most.
- We’re exploring the use of Aico Environmental Sensors that are hardwired into a home’s electrics. They monitor humidity, temperature, and moisture levels, which all contribute to damp and mould. Some of these sensors are already installed in homes in Darren Bungalows and we hope to roll them out across more homes soon to prevent damp and mould.
- We’ll communicate practical tips and advice on how you can reduce dampness, mould, and condensation in your homes. Simple actions like using extractor fans, keeping windows slightly open and managing indoor temperatures, can make a big difference.
- We’ll organise community drop-ins and group sessions, particularly in areas most affected. These will give you a chance to learn more, ask questions, and share concerns.
- We’re thinking about how we can work with our colleagues who are regularly in our homes conducting surveys and repairs so that they can go the extra step and report any signs of dampness, mould and condensation.
