We’ve secured the site of the old Bettws Social Club, where we’ll be building 20 one-bedroom flats delivered by property developers, Castell Group. With planning approval already in place, this is a big step forward in creating new homes for the community.
Building these new homes not only helps people in the area but also puts us in a stronger position financially. As we continue to develop valuable properties, it makes it easier for us to borrow money from banks, allowing us to reinvest in our homes and more projects that benefit the community.
There is a high demand for affordable one-bedroom flats in the area, as identified by Bridgend Council. We are working closely with the council and the Welsh Government to meet this need by providing affordable housing.
Of the 20 new flats, 18 will have communal access, and two will be walk-up flats. All the flats will be available as social housing, meaning they are intended to provide affordable living options for people who need them. Rent for these flats is expected to be around £102.85 per week, with service charges of about £10 per week. These costs might change by the time the development is finished in 2026. You can find more information on how we allocate homes by clicking here.
We’re making sure that the new flats are designed with accessibility in mind. The ground-floor flats will include easy access and wet rooms, which are especially helpful for people with mobility issues or health needs. Our goal is to make sure everyone has a comfortable and accessible place to live.
The new flats will be spread across two buildings: one smaller building with 9 flats and a larger building with 11 flats. We’ve planned the layout to make the best use of space and create a welcoming environment for residents. The development will also include 21 parking spaces and secure bicycle storage to make life easier and safer for everyone.
The funding for this project will come from different sources, including the Social Housing Grant Funding Stream, as well as contributions from our resources. The project is expected to be completed by April 2026.
We’re looking forward to seeing this project come to life and helping to meet the need for affordable housing in Bridgend.
