We have been awarded a substantial grant of £213,000 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. This generous funding will enable us to use our redundant green and grey spaces with a focus on two key priorities: community food growing and carbon capture.
Community Food Growing
Our aim is to create spaces where residents can come together to grow their own food. This initiative will not only provide fresh, locally sourced produce but also create a sense of community and a deeper connection to nature.
Carbon Capture
Addressing the urgent issue of climate change, we will implement projects designed to enhance our carbon capture capabilities. This will include planting more trees, developing green roofs, and other green infrastructure projects aimed at reducing our carbon footprint.
Pilot Sites
To launch this initiative, we are introducing three community food-growing pilot sites. These locations will serve as testing grounds for our ideas and strategies, allowing us to refine our approach before wider implementation. Each site will be customised to meet specific local needs and opportunities, ensuring maximum community benefit.
Recruitment Opportunity
As part of this funding, we are excited to announce a recruitment opportunity for a Fixed Term Part-Time Officer. This role will be crucial in supporting the day-to-day operations of the project, coordinating activities, and ensuring that our goals are met. If you know anyone passionate about sustainability and community development, please encourage them to apply.
Throughout this project, we will capture digital case studies to document our progress, challenges, and successes. These case studies will provide valuable insights and learnings that can be shared with other organisations and communities. By documenting our journey, we aim to inspire others to undertake similar initiatives and contribute to a more sustainable future.
This project represents a significant opportunity for us to positively impact our community and the environment.
